Passengers travelling on the Stourbridge Shuttle have been invited to experience a unique blend of public transport and independent cinema through Shuttle Shorts, an innovative month-long digital film festival created by Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema.

Now well underway, the project transforms the journey between Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town into a miniature cinema experience. Featuring a collection of short films, each lasting no more than three minutes, the festival has been designed so passengers can enjoy an entire film during a single journey on the UK’s only operational Very Light Rail service.

Developed and curated by students from King Edward VI College, Stourbridge, Shuttle Shorts celebrates creativity, community and the growing role that public transport can play in enriching everyday journeys. Passengers simply scan a QR code displayed at Stourbridge Station or visit the dedicated website to begin watching.

The scheme created by Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema demonstrates how transport networks can become platforms for culture as well as connectivity, supporting local filmmakers while giving commuters something unexpected to enjoy.

The project brings together a diverse selection of short films spanning comedy, drama, animation and experimental storytelling, offering something for audiences of all ages and interests. The project also provides a unique opportunity for students and emerging filmmakers to reach new audiences in an entirely different setting.

As Shuttle Shorts continues across the summer, passengers and visitors alike are encouraged to take a few extra minutes to discover the collection and experience one of the UK’s most unusual film festivals.

Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema and Pre Metro also plan to bring Shuttle Shorts back to the railway for a special in-person screening event, where a selection of the films will be shown aboard a static, out-of-service Stourbridge Shuttle railcar. The unique event will allow audiences to experience the films together in the very setting that inspired the festival.
