Welcome to Pre Metro!

Who are we? A small Train Operating Company running an innovative light rail operation between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction.

Stourbridge Shuttle Highly Commended at Industry “Oscars”

The company that operates the popular Stourbridge Shuttle has been recognised at a global award ceremony in London.

Track Record of Success

Although Pre Metro Operations is the smallest train operating company in the UK, it is managed by a team of transport professionals and has an impressive track record of success.

We have lots of young fans of our unique service – and the railcars that operate the Stourbridge Shuttle! Here’s Jamie and Daniel with their Dad, who came from Nuneaton to see our operation, alongside our driver Scott!

TV & Film

Here is our film “Any Day Everyday”, which is all about a day in the life of The Stourbridge Shuttle.

Shuttle is “Efficient, Clean, Economic”

A new independent report has confirmed that the Stourbridge Shuttle is “Efficient, Clean, Economic”. The report – by economist organisation Viaduct – found that PMOL’s Stourbridge Shuttle operation is highly efficient with regards to running costs and carbon dioxide emissions.

Future Light Rail

Future transport planning in the West Midlands is now the responsibility of the West Midlands Mayor. The current holder of this post, Andy Street, is actively examining options.

Pre Metro visits TDI – Transport Design International

26/10/17 Up & Down! Where has the year gone? Judging by the date of the last #ShuttleBlog, very quickly seems to be the answer!

We like to keep things simple on the Stourbridge Shuttle, so for the vast majority of the day, we operate a “turn up and go” frequent service of every 10 minutes from both Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town stations.

Shuttle Passenger Information

We link Stourbridge Junction with Stourbridge Town mainly every 10 minutes, with direct links to Snow Hill line trains at the Junction and local bus services at Stourbridge Interchange at the Town. For timetable information, see our “Timetable” section.

A Driver's Eye View

The Stourbridge branch line has been the source of much curiosity since 1879. The ¾ -mile line linking Junction and Town was built because the Oxford Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway didn’t bring the line close enough to Stourbridge town centre.

Home – Welcome to Pre Metro!

We’re a Train Operating Company – the smallest in the UK! And we’re doing something rather special – every day….

In partnership with West Midlands Railway, we operate the Stourbridge Shuttle – the link between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction. It’s the shortest branch line in the country – possibly in Europe – but our unique operation doesn’t stop there.

Using innovative technology, we’re providing the best-ever service this line has seen in its 130-plus year history. Our operation is clean, green, frequent, highly reliable and easy-access. We’re also local. Based in Stourbridge, our dedicated staff all live in the local area – we’re a real part of the local community!

Since we commenced 7-day operation of the service in 2009, we’ve grown patronage, increased the frequency, cut emissions, reduced service operation costs and revived the Sunday service on the line for the first time since 1914! Reliability of the service currently stands between 99.7 – 100%.

Our Stourbridge Shuttle operation is a success – contact us to discuss if we can do the same for your local rail operation.
