Pre Metro are excited to confirm that our team of professional drivers will continue testing the Revolution VLR demonstrator vehicle into 2022 and beyond.

The Demonstrator vehicle currently being showcased is constructed from recycled carbon fibre and uses a modular design. Powered by an efficient hybrid diesel-electric powertrain, it allows for a maximum speed of 65mph.

A lithium titanate battery pack provides zero-emissions operation in stations and built-up areas, and when at speeds of up to 20 mph. The vehicle interior is also fitted to provide capacity for 56 seated passengers.

As a collaborative project by both Eversholt and TDi, they hope that the project will help to prove the viability of utilising small single-carriage railcars to provide short-feeder services to disconnected communities.

With many disused or mothballed railway tracks across the county, this vehicle could help to prove the viability of many of these lines.

Members from Eversholt and TDi recently learnt about how the current dual-track heavy rail lines between Stourbridge and the Round Oak Steel Works could be used to provide a dedicated passenger service. Could the Revolution VLR be the vehicle used for the Dudley Dasher?

Our test drivers have been operating the vehicle since early October and are glad to carry on next year.

Managing Director of Pre Metro, Phil Evans, talked about the continued collaboration between the RVLR manufacturing consortium and ourselves.

“Moving into 2022, we’re glad that we can further support this project as traction and interest in Very Light Rail begins to take off. Our collaboration can help to shape a pathway for railway restoration schemes both close to home and further across the country.”
