A new Government report has revealed the popularity of light rail and tram networks in the UK, which shows use of this mode of transport has risen by over 40% in the last decade.
James Hammett, Managing Director of UK Tram – the industry body representing Light Rail in the UK – said: “Customers are giving a massive vote of confidence in light rail. It offers a frequent, swift and reliable ‘green’ travel option and also helps significantly in attracting inward investment and driving regeneration.”
Customer satisfaction levels for the light rail sector remain in excess of 90%.
Although Pre Metro Operations’ Stourbridge Shuttle operates on the UK railway network, it is seen as a light rail operation, with the company currently working on opportunities to expand VLR (Very Light Rail) operations at other locations.
