Dudley Dasher on Track and Gaining Momentum

Pre Metro’s Dasher project has continued to gain significant traction in the first quarter of 2025, with growing support from key political figures, industry leaders, and local businesses.

As a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional transport solutions, the Dasher is emerging as a viable option to enhance connectivity between Stourbridge and Brierley Hill—with aspirations to integrate into the West Midlands’ transport network.

A major milestone in 2025 was the visit of West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker, who, alongside Stourbridge MP Cat Eccles, experienced the operational efficiency of the Stourbridge Shuttle—one of the UK’s most reliable rail services with a 99.6% reliability rate.

The visit strengthened political awareness of the Dasher’s potential, with our Operations Director, Steve Jasper, continuing to reinforce the project’s ability to deliver an affordable, swift, and low-cost alternative to Metro extensions.

Momentum has also grown among local businesses, with Black Country Chamber of Commerce CEO Sarah Moorhouse visiting in February and recognising the economic benefits of the project. With 83% of Black Country journeys made by car, this indicates a significant need for better public transport.

The next steps are underway, with Pre Metro asking the West Midlands Rail Executive (WMRE) to help estimate the costs of using the existing freight line and have also approached Transport for the West Midlands (TfWM) to gain access to its passenger forecast model.

This data will be crucial in completing a Strategic Outline Business Case (SOBC), which is a key step in moving the project forward.

With strong political and business support, we are now actively working to secure £30 million to bring the Dasher to life, collaborating with Network Rail, TfWM, and WMRE.
