Passengers boarding the Stourbridge Shuttle

A Strong Railway Year for Pre Metro

Pre Metro Operations Ltd has reported a successful 2025/26 railway year, marked by strong passenger growth, industry-leading reliability, and continued progress toward expanding Very Light Rail (VLR) across the Black Country.

The Stourbridge Shuttle carried over 576,000 passengers during the year, demonstrating sustained recovery and reaffirming its role as a vital local transport link. Performance remained consistently high, with an average reliability of 99.44%, including multiple periods of faultless operation.

A key milestone was the appointment of Steve Jasper as Chairman, bringing renewed focus to strengthening partnerships with local authorities, businesses, and transport providers. Under his leadership, momentum has continued to build behind the Dudley Dasher – our proposed low-cost, zero-emission rail link connecting Stourbridge, Brierley Hill, and Dudley.

The Dasher aims to address transport challenges across the Black Country, where over 80% of journeys are made by car, by utilising existing rail corridors to deliver a practical and affordable alternative.

Operationally, the Shuttle maintained exceptional performance despite challenging conditions, supported by targeted investment in fleet upgrades, including CCTV installation, LED lighting, and ongoing vehicle recertification.

Pre Metro also strengthened its industry position through collaboration with Network Rail’s Mixed Use Rail team, when they visited our maintenance depot, and we showcased how the Stourbridge model could be replicated across other branch lines.

Alongside operational success, the company continued to support community initiatives, including the Stourbridge Music Scene Map and creative passenger engagement projects.

Looking ahead, Pre Metro is focused on expanding its digital presence, strengthening partnerships, and progressing the Dudley Dasher – reinforcing its commitment to delivering simple, reliable, and innovative rail solutions for the communities it serves.
