Pre Metro’s Q1 2025
In the first quarter of the year, our team continued to champion local jobs, greener travel, and better connections across the Black Country.
As the company moves forward with our Dasher plans, the focus remains clear: we must deliver sustainable, affordable, and accessible transport that benefits communities and businesses.
Our service is still one of the most reliable rail services in the UK, and Stourbridge Shuttle has become a staple of everyday life for many locals.
With running costs around 50% lower than traditional rail, it’s proof that light rail technology can offer a smarter, more eco-friendly alternative to conventional transport.
Now, with the Dasher proposal, we are looking to extend this success to Brierley Hill—connecting Stourbridge to key destinations like Merry Hill Shopping Centre, local industrial areas, and regional rail networks.
The project has already earned strong support from local businesses, community leaders, and transport stakeholders, who see its potential to ease congestion, support the economy, and create new job opportunities.
“Improving transport links between Stourbridge and Brierley Hill isn’t just about getting from A to B,” stated Steve Jasper, Operations Director at Pre Metro.
“The Dasher could give businesses easier access to talent, help workers save on travel costs, and boost connectivity at a fraction of the cost of traditional rail schemes or recent metro expansions.”
Recent visits from West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker, MP Cat Eccles, and Black Country Chamber of Commerce CEO Sarah Moorhouse have brought fresh energy to the project, with encouraging conversations about the opportunities the Dasher could bring.
We also welcomed renowned transport journalist Peter Plisner onboard the shuttle as we showcased our industry-leading statistics and plans for Stourbridge and beyond.
As discussions continue with Network Rail and Transport for the West Midlands, Pre Metro is now focused on securing the £30 million investment needed to bring the Dasher to life—a cost-effective, low-carbon project that could reshape the region’s transport future.
